After 45mm of rain last weekend, all cattle except for 20 dry cows and heifers still remain grazing, but they will be housed in the coming few days.
Farm manager Shaun Diver has decided to house the cattle and ewes will remain at grass and graze off any remaining covers.
Cull cows that were housed already are now built up to 6kg of meal, which will increase to 9kg, and remaining cows will be on ad-lib meal until finish.
Some cows are expected to be drafted over the coming two weeks, with 13 cows currently in for feeding.
Sheep
On the sheep breeding front, Shaun has swapped the rams this week after 14 days of breeding, with all ewes being single-ram mated in an effort to record progeny.
This week saw the annual Tullamore heifer sale in Roscrea on Wednesday evening, as 15 heifers went under the hammer with a full clearance and an average of €3,687, with a price range of €2,850 to €4,600.
Cows and weanlings that are housed are been penned based on weight and body condition score with any cows needing attention ahead of calving next January.
While heifer weanlings are housed, it it hoped these will be grazing the forage crop sown in another couple of weeks when it becomes fit to graze.
