The Finnish timber trading and consultancy company Fornello Oy has ceased its co-operation agreement with the Irish-based sawlog exporter LJR Forestry.

LJR Forestry has been actively exporting Irish logs to the continent since April this year.

It has been operating mainly in the northeast of the country, primarily harvesting plantations that were severely impacted by windblow.

Fornello Oy was a major partner of LJR Forestry but the Finnish firm confirmed to the Irish Farmers Journal that this is no longer the case.

Fornello Oy’s CEO Juhani Koskiranta wrote to Lee Johnston of LJR Forestry on 18 June informing him that the co-operation agreement between the firms was terminated, the Irish Farmers Journal was told.

Lee Johnston of LJR Forestry was contacted by this newspaper but he declined to comment.

“I won’t be providing a statement at this point in time,” Johnston said.

LJR Forestry shipped its first load of sawlogs to Belgium from Dundalk Port in late April, and Johnston claimed that the firm aimed to significantly increase its operations over the summer months.

LJR Forestry is a private company, formed in April this year

It has two directors, Lee Johnston and Anzhelika Johnston.

A major operation is underway to salvage the estimated 12m cubic metres of timber levelled and damaged due to storms Darragh and Éowyn.
