The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) auction in New Zealand halted a seven-month decline following a price rise in the latest auction.

The average price now stands at $2,819 USD/MT (€2,476), up 2.2% on the last auction held on 20 November.

The number of participating bidders increased to 187 but the quantity sold saw a significant reduction on the previous auction. It dropped from 42,966MT to 36,450MT.

Gains

Whole milk powder (WMP), along with butter, saw the biggest gains, up 2.5% and 2.7%, respectively. WMP averaged $2,667 (€2,342), while butter averaged $3,745 (€3,289).

There were marginal gains for lactose, up 0.5% to $918 (€806), and for skim milk powder (SMP), up 0.3% to $1,970 (€1,730).

Cheddar slipped 2.2% to $3,184 (€2,796).
