Mercosur – beef exports surpass 2m tonnes

Beef exports in 2017 from the Mercosur countries surpassed 2m tonnes, which is an 11% increase year on year. This is the first time in a decade that beef exports from the Mercosur bloc exceeded 2m tonnes, driven by strong growth in Brazilian and Argentinian beef exports.

USA – beef exports fall in November

US beef exports for November fell 3% year on year to just under 112,000t, according to the US Meat Exporters Federation. This brings US beef exports for the 11 months of 2017 (January to November) to 1.15m tonnes, which is up 7% on the previous year.

Australia – beef exports remain unchanged for 2017

Australian beef exports for 2017 stood at just over 1m tonnes, according to the Australian department of Agriculture. This is the fifth consecutive year that Australian beef exports have exceeded 1m tonnes, driven by strong demand from the US and China.

France – forecast for wheat exports lifted

French wheat exports to the rest of the EU bloc are forecast at 8.6m tonnes for the current season, according to the country’s agriculture bureau FranceAgriMer. However, the forecast for French wheat exports outside the EU has been trimmed to 9.3m tonnes.
