Brazil – beef exports soar in May

Brazilian beef exports for May stood at 121,000t, which is a massive 34%, or 30,000t, ahead of the same month last year. This brings Brazilian beef exports for the first five months of 2019 (Jan-May) to 567,000t, which is almost 20% ahead of the same period last year.

Australia – beef exports fall in May

Australian beef exports for May stood at just under 105,500t, which is down 4% compared with the same month last year. This was mainly driven by a 15% drop in beef shipments to Japan, which fell to 26,840t. In contrast, beef exports to China grew by almost 50% to reach 23,000t.

US – corn production forecast lower due to floods

Due to recent heavy rains and flooding, maize (corn) production in the US is set to fall in 2019. The International Grains Council (IGC) has forecast US corn production in 2019 at 362m tonnes, which would be a sharp drop compared with the 381m tonnes produced last year.

Poland – milk production continues to rise

Polish milk production for the month of April came to just over 1bn litres, which is almost 3% ahead of the same month last year. This brings Polish milk production for the first four months of 2019 (Jan-Apr) to just over 3.9bn litres, which is 4% ahead of last year.
