Brazil – beef exports to China hit record levels

Brazilian beef exporters shipped more than 40,000t of beef to China for the month of September alone, setting a new record. This brings Brazilian beef exports to China to more than 250,000t for the first nine months (Jan-Sept) of 2019.

USA – almost one third of corn harvested

US tillage farmers are almost one third of the way through the 2019 corn (maize) harvest. According to the USDA, 30% was harvested by the start of this week. Due to adverse weather, this year’s harvest in the US is well behind last year when almost 50% of crops were harvested at this point.

EU – wheat exports forecast higher

French consultancy Strategie Grains has raised its forecast for soft wheat exports from the EU28 in 2019/20 to 27.3m tonnes. This is 1.6m tonnes higher than its previous forecast. So far this season, the EU has seen strong demand from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Thailand for its wheat.

New Zealand – milk production falls in September

New Zealand dairy farmers pumped out 2.6bn litres of milk in September, which was down 1% on the same month last year. This brings New Zealand milk production for the first four months of the 2019/20 milking season (June-Sept) to 4.4bn litres, which is 0.7% ahead of last year.
