Australia – cattle kill hits eight-year low

The monthly cattle kill in Australia fell to an eight-year low for the month of June. Figures released by Meat & Livestock Australia show the total cattle kill in June stood at 612,000 head, which is down 14% on last year. Australia’s cattle kill in the first half of the year is back 7% to 3.8m head.

US – milk production rises in first half of 2020

US milk production looks strong in 2020 judging by the first six months of the year. From January to June, US milk production is up 1.8% year on year at 49.1bn litres. That’s an extra 845m litres compared with the same period last year.

Russia – wheat harvest almost 60% complete

The Russian wheat harvest for 2020 is almost 60% complete as of this week, with a total of 17.3m ha (43m acres) harvested so far. Crop yields are reported to be strong after good weather this summer and Russian grain analysts are forecasting the 2020 wheat harvest to come in at 82m tonnes.

Argentina – record beef exports to the US

Argentina exported just under 7,150t of beef to the US for the month of July – a new record volume for Argentine beef exports to the US in a single month. This brings total beef exports from Argentina to the US to a cumulative 13,590t for the first seven months of 2020.
