Brazil – sharp fall in beef exports to EU

Brazilian beef exports to the EU have seen a double-digit decline so far this year. In the first nine months of 2020, Brazilian beef exports to the EU were down 16% year on year to less than 64,000t. In total, beef imports by the EU are down 13% so far this year to just under 182,000t.

Netherlands – growth in milk supply halts

Having been in growth mode for the first half of 2020, Dutch milk production has slowed considerably in recent months. For October, Dutch milk production stood at 1.1bn litres, which was the same as last year. In the first half of 2020, Dutch milk supply was up almost 3%.

China – pork imports up 80% on last year

Chinese pork imports for the month of October stood at 330,000t, which is an incredible 80% increase on the same month last year. This brings Chinese pork imports for the first 10 months of 2020 to a cumulative 3.6m tonnes, which is up 126% on the previous year.

USA – soya bean and corn exports soar

US exports of soya beans and maize (corn) in 2020 are significantly ahead of last year, according to the USDA. US exports of soya beans are up from 14m tonnes last season to almost 25m tonnes this year, while maize exports have almost doubled to just under 10m tonnes in 2020.
