Herdwatch has launched its farm management app into Northern Ireland and is fully approved by the Department of Agriculutre, Environmenet and Rural Affairs (DAERA).

Over 8,000 farmers across Ireland and Britain currently use the app, which is available to dairy, beef, suckler and sheep farmers for the recording of farm compliance and management information.

Fabian Peyaud, Herdwatch CEO said: “Herdwatch can save farmers hours on paperwork every week by allowing them to record farm and animal events on the go as they happen. Our members tell us the app saves them at least two to three hours a week.”

Medicine scanner

First launched in 2014, Peyaud said the app has overcome steep learning curves and challenges.

The latest addition to the app is the farm medicine scanner. It is designed to make recording animal remedies easier.

A barcode scanner on the app can recognise a barcode and identify what medicine it is and what its corresponding VPA (IRE) or VMD (UK) number is. If there is a QR code available, the app will also be able to automatically pull in the batch-number and expiry date.

To celebrate the launch of the app into Northern Ireland, Herdwatch will be attending the 2018 Winter Fair, which takes place on Thursday 13 December in Balmoral.
