At a meeting in the Department of Agriculture last week on sheep EID, IFA sheep chair Sean Dennehy said the proposal to impose EID from 1 October must be postponed. The IFA delegation raised issues around the costs of EID, lambs direct to factory, hill sheep as well as market access, the removal of factory levies and increased direct support for sheep farmers.

IFA president Joe Healy said cattle farmers would have expected a lot more action from Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed and the Government in calling the factories to task on the cattle price issue. The IFA has been meeting with factory management around the country highlighting the need for stability in the price.
