The store cattle trade is gaining some upward momentum at Swatragh Mart, with more buyers attending the weekly sale looking for good-quality stock. A strong showing of stock offered on Monday saw heifers sell to a top price of £1,165 for a 538kg Limousin animal.

Other noted prices saw good continental heifers selling from 200p to 224p/kg, with a 442kg Charolais making £980, while a 300g Limousin made £760 or 253p/kg. Plainer lots sold from 179p to 191p/kg for a 424kg Charolais making £810.

Bullocks sold to a top price of £1,230 for a 590kg Limousin animal, with good-quality forward cattle over 550kg typically selling upwards from £1,200.

Mid-weight stores sold from 206p to 229p/kg, with several lots selling from £1,000 to £1,185 for cattle weighing 450kg to 550kg. Lighter types sold to a top of 256p/kg for a 388kg Limousin which made £995. A small entry of cull cows sold to £1,000 for an 850kg Simmental animal.
