There’s nothing quite like a machinery auction to stir interest among farmers and contractors either looking for a potential deal or checking the value of equipment in the market.

An upcoming auction to be held by Carnew Mart on behalf of David Hatton, on 16 February, has all the ingredients of drawing a lot of interest and a large crowd; good timing coming into the busy spring period, very well presented and maintained modern equipment and a large selection that will appeal to both contractors and farmers alike.

Wide appeal

This auction is for a mixture of equipment for silage-making, fertiliser spreading and tillage work.

Big ticket items include a 132 JCB 414s articulated loading shovel with 3,400 hours on the clock.

This will appeal to contractors and there is also a folding Redrock 12ft silage fork available.

A 2006 Claas Jaguar 850 with 2,800 engine hours and 2,300 drum hours will draw a lot of interest with the impending silage season all but a few months away.

A number of modern trailers include a 22ft Broughan tandem-axle trailer with grain and silage sides and rollover cover. Slightly smaller but still big enough for any job are two 20ft Broughans with grain and silage sides on low ground pressure tyres.

A JCB 412 with a bucket is certain to draw keen bidding.

A number of tractors are also set to be auctioned with the clean and modern theme continuing. These include a 2011 Deutz-Fahr M640 with 4,500 hours, a 151 Fendt 716 Vario TMS with 4,300 hours and front linkage and a 162 Class Arion 640 with 1,350 hours – all modern tractors with moderate hours for their age in very good condition.

For interested parties looking at other implements, a 2013 Samco four-row maize planter and 1,200-litre tank with auto chemical filler will appeal to contractors.

Farmers and contractors alike will be watching the Class Rollant 255 roto-cut baler while large tillage farmers or contractors spreading fertiliser will take interest in the Bredal fert/lime spreader K85.

Other very notable items in very fresh condition include two tri-axle bale trailers, a 2012 Vaderstad Carrier 500 5m disc harrow with levelling bar, a 4m Horsh Pronto 4DC seed drill and a Kverneland five-furrow reversible plough complete with discs, skimmers and good metal.

The machinery is owned by well-known tillage farmer and contractor, David Hatton, who is retiring from the contracting business but will continue his extensive tillage business.
