Over two-thirds of farmers received under €10,000 in BPS last year including greening payments, and over 40% received under €5,000, figures released by Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed show.

The figures show that current proposals to impose a €100,000 limit on payments in the next CAP would affect 156 farmers.

The proposal includes a reduction in payments between €60,000 and €100,000, which would target another 721 recipients in Ireland.

Minister Creed also said that 7,375 applicants were found to be ineligible for BPS payments in 2018, and another 343 had entitlements but outstanding queries from the Department meant they had not yet been paid.

He was responding to a parliamentary question from Fianna Fáil agriculture spokesperson Charlie McConalogue.
