Exports of Irish cream liqueur have grown by up to 8% in 2018, according to Alcohol Beverage Federation of Ireland (ABFI).

Cream is an important part of Irish cream lLiqueur and must be made on the island of Ireland to be approved under a protected geographical indicator (GI).

“The Irish cream liqueur sector makes an important contribution to the Irish economy, purchasing 316 million litres of fresh cream from Irish farmers every year, sourced from 46,000 dairy cows,” ABFI director Patricia Callan said.

The US was our top selling market, followed by the UK, Canada, Germany and Spain.

Up to 90m bottles were sold worldwide in 2017.
