John Moloney this week handed over the reins at Glanbia plc with both company value and milk price at a record high. On Tuesday, the company closed with a stock market value of €3.134bn, about 20 times higher than its lowest market value (€160m) in 2001, when he took the helm. This week’s share price places a value of €1.25bn on Glanbia Co-op’s 40% shareholding, while individual farmers directly hold considerably more value through plc shares gathered along the way. The fortunes of Glanbia plc and its new offshoot Glanbia Ingredients Ireland Ltd (GIIL) are pivotal to the future prosperity of Irish dairy and grain farmers. We wish new managing director Siobhan Talbot and her global team well.
