The €100m Beef Exceptional Aid Measure (BEAM) scheme will close for applications this Sunday, 8 September.

IFA president Joe Healy said that any farmer who does not have access to a computer should seek assistance from the Department of Agriculture, Teagasc, their private planner or their local IFA office.

He said the €100m scheme, which was secured by the IFA, is worth €100 per finished animal and €40 per suckler cow. Based on data presented by the Department of Agriculture, more than 37,000 beef finishers and 55,000 suckler farmers are eligible nationally.

“The IFA insisted on finished cattle sold through the marts being eligible. The scheme specifies that where cattle have been presented for slaughter by an agent or dealer within 30 days of purchase, including those purchased in a mart, payment may issue to the immediate previous herdowner.

The IFA is aware that there has been some confusion around who is eligible to apply and urges farmers to consider if any of the following applies to them:

  • Did you kill cattle between 24 September 2018 and 12 May 2019?
  • Did you sell finished cattle in a mart that were slaughtered within 30 days of sale and within the above dates?
  • Do you have suckler cows that calved in 2018?
  • If any of these apply to you, then you could be eligible. More details, including your local IFA office contact, are available on ifa.ie/BEAM
