DEAR SIR:

We welcome the DAERA announcement of support for the dairy industry.

We note that it includes June milk. However, we are concerned that processors will use this as an excuse to not pass on market price increases for June milk.

Markets have recovered well and recent Dutch auctions suggest that a base price for milk should be at least 25p/l.

Our clients fully support us in this, and we would urge farmers to speak to their processors. Finances are very difficult at farm level and milk volumes are falling at this time of year. There still remains significant cashflow pressure given farm costs and breakeven milk prices at 27p plus.

Ian Carrick and Jason McMinn.
