Combines 4 Charity today launched their latest mega draw to mark their 10 year anniversary.

The organisation consists of 10 cereal farmers and is famed for breaking the Guinness World Record for the most amount of combine harvesters working in the one field in 2009 and again 2012, raising money for charity in the process.

Their efforts didn’t stop there however and through several fund raising initiatives over the past 10 years, the group has raised over €700,000 for charity to date.

Tickets are now on sale for the draw where over €150,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs. Through the anniversary draw, the organisation hopes to bring total funds raised to over €1,000,000.

Earlier today we spoke with the groups PRO Tony Brady to learn more about the anniversary draw.

World records

Combines 4 Charity Ltd was formed in 2009 by a group of 10 cereal farmers to establish a new Guinness World Record and raise money for charity.

The first event in 2009 saw 184 combines working simultaneously, smashing the previous Australian world record for 56 combines. The event also attracted 20,000 spectators and raised €300,000.

However, this record was soon broken. In 2010, 200 combines came together in Canada to break the Irish record.

Combines 4 Charity soon reclaimed the title by organising 204 combines to harvest one field simultaneously in 2012.

In addition to these record-breaking feats, the group also held a mega draw in 2010, another record attempt with 104 forage harvesters in 2017 and entered a share farming arrangement on a 100ac farm where members did the work free of charge with all profits going to charity.

Currently the organisation's three main chosen charities are:

  • National Rehabilitation Hospital, Dun Laoghaire which is a specialist hospital for spinal injuries.
  • Barnardos, which is an independent charity who work with vulnerable children and campaign for the rights of all children.
  • Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre, Drogheda, Co Louth, which provides counselling and support for families affected by cancer.
  • However, 14 other charities have also received a share of the funds raised over the years. All time and work involved with organising these events by the committee has been free of charge.
