Wallis Bird – 4 January: Irish artist Wallis Bird is bringing her New Moon tour to Theatre Royal, Waterford on 4 January. She announced over 40 live dates, touring across Europe to celebrate her new album, which is her sixth studio album. This album is “folked-up” and is infused with soul, heavy in beats and bass. Wallis is a two-time Meteor Award winner, a two-time Irish Choice Prize nominee and a nominee for Artist of the Year at the American-based Folk Alliance International Awards 2019. The Fureys – 9 January: The Fureys will entertain you like they have been entertaining audiences worldwide for the past 42 years in the Ramor Theatre, Cavan, on 9 January. Members of these audiences have included the late Pope John Paul, Mary McAleese and President Michael D Higgins. Tony Blair has even publicly stated his favourite peace song of all time is the Fureys’ Green Fields of France. Bernard Casey – 4 January: Bernard Casey plus guests will be in the City Limits Comedy Club, Cork, on 4 January. Bernard is one of Ireland’s leading comedy stars. He has over 50,000 online followers and has captured the attention of the nation with his videos of the Polish/Irish Barman and the Irish Listening Test. He’s known for bringing characters of rural Ireland to life with his sketches and shows. In one eye, out the other – 6 to 11 January: In his first solo comedy show, Tadhg Hickey of CCCahoots introduces you to Feargal in Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin. Feargal is a downtrodden but cheery man who has fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming an alcoholic. He’ll bring you along on his journey with its many twists, and a hope of light at the end of the tunnel. This was the most nominated show at the 2019 Dublin Fringe Awards. Film

The Gentlemen – out now: Released on New Year’s day and written and directed by Guy Ritchie, The Gentleman stars Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam and Michelle Dockery. This is the second collaboration between Ritchie and Hunnam after King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. The film is about a British drug lord who tries to sell off his highly profitable marijuana empire in London to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires. When word gets out he’s selling up, it sets off schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal it from under him. This film is rated 16.
