LAUGH out loud at the Bray Comedy Festival from 12-16 February in the Harbour Bar, Bray, Co Wicklow. There will be a host of comedians performing including Andrew Maxwell, Jason Byrne, Ed Sammon, Paul Currie and Enya Martin, to name but a few. Also on offer will be a roast battle, which isn’t the battle of the Sunday dinners, but rather a stand off between two comedians firing off their best insulting comedy jokes. GRAB the popcorn and attend the inaugural Mullingar International Film Festival on 20 February. The festival will feature numerous award-winning short films by well-regarded Irish and International filmmakers, some of which will be premiering in Ireland at the event. It will also feature the local premiere of I Created You by Mullingar filmmaker Noel McIntyre. This film profiles the work of renowned woodcarver Richie Clark. The event will raise funds for Temporary Emergency Accommodation Mullingar (TEAM), who deliver support services for homeless women and children in the midlands. DRESS up in your glad rags and become a lord or lady for the night at the Downton Ball in aid of St Luke’s General Hospital Kilkenny in the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny, on 15 February. The night will have a 1920s theme, a drinks reception from 7pm, canapés, a four-course meal and live music from the Honey Dews Swing Band. The dress code for the evening is 1920s or formal wear and is optional. Tickets cost €50 each and are available via Eventbrite or at the hotel reception.

TAKE your relationship to new heights with a special Valentine’s Day Croke Park Ericsson Skyline Dusk Tour on 14 February. The tour lasts 1.5 hours and includes access to the GAA Museum before you leave. Your guide will share fascinating tales about Dublin’s history and its connection with St Valentine. It could be the perfect location to ask a certain special question. You can continue the evening with a complimentary Valentine’s cocktail or mocktail across the road in the Croke Park Hotel.
