"A man was treated at the scene for serious injuries after a wall collapsed.

First fatality of 2021

It is the first farm fatality of 2021.

Last year, 19 people were killed on Irish farms. Of this number three were children and nine were farmers aged 65 and over.

Some 214 people died in farm incidents between 2010 and 2019.

Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture with responsibility for farm safety Martin Heydon has said that 2021 needs to be the year when farmers put their own safety first.

"We cannot continue to see the level of fatalities we have seen in recent years," he said.
