Letters about A5 ‘watery and weak’

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) has been criticised by MLAs about how it communicates with landowners impacted by the A5 western transport corridor.

At Stormont’s agriculture committee last week, Daniel McCrossan from the SDLP described recent correspondence to A5 landowners as “watery and weak”.

“There is a deep frustration now bubbling from people who actually accepted that the road needs to go ahead and were in support of it,” he said.

Similarly, Tom Buchanan from the DUP said local farmers need clarity around what is happening with almost 2,000 acres of land which was vested by DfI last year.

“We do need to keep some pressure on some way or another in order to get answers for the farmers. That’s all we’re looking for. The farmers want clarity,” Buchanan said.
