With many of the herd's show team included, last weekend's online timed auction of the Goldstar Charolais herd in Co Tipperary was always going to be a thriller, and that is was.

Conducted by Mid-Tipp Mart through MartEye, prices soared to €15,400, with bidders from all across Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.

The 14 Charolais females cataloged all sold, averaging €7,885, while the eight embryo lots averaged €1,020 each.

This year's overall junior female calf champion from Tullamore was the first lot to close.

Goldstar Adorable set the tone for things to come, selling for the highest price of €15,400.

Just over six months old, Adorable is a daughter of the impressive French sire Nevers and the Dovea Alcazar bred cow, Cottage Maple. Offering buyers a boastful terminal index of €190 and a single copy of the Q204X gene, she was secured by Keadyview Livestock in Wales.

Goldstar Vogue ET sold for €13,200.

The same enterprise went on to purchase the next highest priced heifer, Goldstar Vogue ET, at €13,200. This soft-fleshed 13-month-old daughter of Reglisse and the Tombapik bred dam Goldstar Nightingale ET, also impressed at this year's shows, picking up multiple red ribbons along the way.

Nice balance

She went to auction with a single copy of both the F94L and Q204X genes, which were backed up by a nice balance of terminal traits.

A south of Ireland buyer had the final call on Goldstar Valeriane at €11,000.

Born in February 2024, this Magicien daughter goes back to the Ballym Mylove bred cow Goldstar Offrande.

Like many of her comrades, she packed a fantastic set of terminal figures, which coincided with a single copy of the Q204X gene.

Keadyview Livestock added the classy young heifer, Goldstar April, to its list of purchases at €10,200.

Just over five months old, this Nevers daughter is out of the French-bred cow Goldstar Irene. Although curtailed on indexes, this single Q204X carrier attracted lots of online attention before getting knocked down to the Welsh buyer.

Trade was just as hot for the embryo lots, with a top price of €1,150 paid for a grade 1 embryo of Goldstar Nightingale and Reglisse and Goldstar Nightingale and Nevers, with the majority selling to Irish based customers.
