Scotbeef’s turnover rose 2.8% to £320million last year, according to accounts submitted to Companies House. The report states the rise was due to strong UK sale volumes and good cost management. The figures show 12 months of trading up until 26 February 2017.

Compared with the previous year, the staff at Scotbeef has grown from 967 to 991. The aggregated payroll salary at Scotbeef for employees was just over £26,000 per year. The accounts also state that Scotbeef received Government grants worth £159,000 over the year.

Seperately, the UK continues to maintain the second highest beef price in the European Union.

The average price for an R3 heifer was £3.67/kg last month, compared with £3.85/kg in Sweden.

Figures published by the Livestock and Meat Commission in Northern Ireland show that the EU average price for the same animal was £3.43/kg. Poland, which has an increasing presence in the UK food service sector, saw an average price for an R3 heifer of £2.88/kg, nearly 80p cheaper than the UK.

Spain saw the biggest growth over the last month, rising 12p to £3.61/kg for an R3 heifer. While Italy took the biggest tumble of 19p to £3.56/kg for the same grade animal.
