Stephen Crowley is to take the reigns at Herdwatch, founder Fabien Peyaud has announced in a post on LinkenIn.

Peyaud has held the role of CEO of the farm software company since it was established in 2012.

Peyaud said that his new role would focus on long-term strategy, product vision and innovation. He said that he is not retiring or stepping away and remains deeply committed to the company.

Crowley, who joined Herdwatch as chief financial officer in September 2025, was previously a senior manager at Flipdish, a restaurant software platform.

Peyaud said that Crowley has a proven track record in scaling software businesses.

Background

Herdwatch was founded more than a decade ago by Peyaud while he worked at FRS Co-op. FRS was a founding partner of the software company.

In 2022, Herdwatch received investment from Renatus, a Dublin-based private equity company, which helped the company expand its global footprint, including a move into the US market. The Renatus investment also helped Herdwatch expand through acquisition.

In 2024, it bought ComTag and UK-based Lilac Technology, both companies in the veterinary sector. In January this year, Herdwatch acquired VetDrive, a veterinary practice management software programme developer.

The company says it now has more than 20,000 users across Ireland, the UK and the US.
