Devenish Nutrition has bought Netterville Manor next to its existing Dowth research farm in Co Meath for a sum understood to be in excess of €2m, and will invest another €3m in redeveloping it.

“It will become our global centre for innovation,” Devenish executive chairman Owen Brennan told the Irish Farmers Journal.

Built in the 19th century as a home for widows and recently used as a wedding venue, the building will accommodate “practical facilities for our increasing number of staff,” Brennan added.

This will be integrated with Dowth, doubling the €5m property investment made by the Brennan family there in 2013.

Dowth Hall, the derelict residence standing on the 420ac farm, is also being redeveloped as a joint family home and company facility.

The land overlaps with the Brú na Bóinne world heritage site, with Newgrange just a short walk away.

Brennan said the redevelopment would offer public access to showcase archaeological landmarks and Devenish’s “one health” approach to connect animal, environmental and human health.
