DEAR SIR: I would like to reassert my concern regarding the ivy-clad trees in our country. Ivy is a parasite, it obtains its sustenance from the victim and will inevitably kill the tree. It also distorts the shape of the tree, so we cannot admire its trunk and branches.

I make a plea to observant citizens of Ireland – please accept the evidence of your eyes and initiate a movement to control this rampant aggressor which is distorting our landscape and is so detrimental to our environment.
