In late January 2018, IFA organised a county twinning and transport initiative to move fodder supplies to the west, northwest and northern parts of Ireland, backed by the Department of Agriculture, Food & the Marine transport support measure. It was an overwhelming success.
Farmers in the south took their bales (no charge) to their local mart for transportation and distribution to rescue the critically low winter fodder in that region in winter 2018.
I attended a beautiful wedding in Enniscrone, Co Sligo recently.
It rained all day! Mountains of baled silage and green fields were the norm.
They were a distraction to our envious eyes on our journey up and back home. No drought in the west, northwest and northern parts.
Can we appeal to our farmer friends in that region now to help us out.
We will pay for the silage, as per Done Deal €35-€40 for good quality silage.
The stress was palpable at the mart this week in our drought-stricken region.
If the IFA can’t get the required response, maybe the organisers of the fuel blockade can mobilise their heavy-duty artillery again. This crisis is way worse than the fuel issue.
