A cattle-handling facilities on-farm demonstration takes place on Tuesday 9 September at 6.30pm on the farm of John Flynn, Curraghduff, Newbridge, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, H53 YR67. The event will include a live demonstration of cattle-handling facilities, with the suckler-to-beef farm recently erecting new handling facilities that complement and make best use of existing housing.
The event organised by Teagasc will also feature advice on farmyard layout design, a demonstration on using a bale slice and information on the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS III) farm safety equipment. An explanation of the New 2025 Suckler Beef Welfare Scheme will also be covered.
The Department of Agriculture this week issued a reminder aimed at farmers and other fertiliser end users informing them that unprotected urea (urea that has not been coated with a urease inhibitor) in solid form will no longer be permitted to be spread on land after 14 September 2025.
The Department states that “this restriction applies to all urea nitrogen (N) products with ureic N content of 1% or above, including those products blended with secondary macronutrients (eg sulphur) and/or micronutrients (eg selenium). However, the restriction does not apply to blends or compounds containing unprotected urea and phosphorus. Furthermore, unprotected urea can still be used in liquid form as a fertiliser”.
It adds that “moving from unprotected urea to urea in a protected form is a key element of Ireland’s approach to reducing ammonia emissions and ensuring continued compliance with ammonia reduction targets”.
Further information can be found on the Department’s website, www.gov.ie/nitrates”.
