Ukraine – grain exports down
USDA report that Ukraine’s average grain exports for first three months of marketing year 2026/27 were 1.7m tonnes, half the 2025/26 average due to Russian attacks.
Netherlands – pig factory closure
Vion has announced that it plans to sell its Apeldoorn site before the end of this year, affecting 300 jobs, due to shrinking pig supply.
Canada – milk price increase
The Canadian Dairy Commission, which sets the price farmers are paid for milk in Canada, has announced a 2.8% increase, the equivalent of €0.02/l, to take effect from 1 February 2027.
New Zealand – meat industry scholarships
The Meat Industry Association has announced undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships of NZ$5,000 (€2,500) and NZ$10,000 (€5,000) for students studying subjects relevant to red meat processing.
