Farming For Nature open days, titled 'Inside the Gate', will return on Sunday 30 August on 19 farms across the country.
The events offer families, food lovers and anyone interested in farming the chance to step on to a working farm, meet the farmers and see how food can be produced in a way that supports nature, biodiversity and healthy ecosystems.
Every participating farm offers a different experience, from dairy and beef farms to orchards and hill farms, with each farm showcasing approaches to protecting wildlife, improving soil and water quality and enhancing biodiversity.
Co-founder of Farming For Nature Brigid Barry said that 'Inside the Gate' aims to create a connection between people and the farms that produce their food.
She said it gives people the opportunity to visit a working farm and to meet farmers and ask questions about farming and nature working together.
“Every farm taking part is different, but they all share a commitment to producing food while caring for the land, wildlife and future generations.
“We hope visitors leave with a greater appreciation of both the work farmers do and the value of nature-friendly farming.”
A day to connect with farmers and nature
Farming For Nature ambassador Mimi Crawford, who is also an 'Inside the Gate' host farmer said each year they look forward to welcoming people to the farm to meet the animals and “to experience the simple joys of a day on the farm”.
“It is a great day for connecting with others and the soil beneath our feet,” she said.
Adult tickets cost €5, while children go free.
