The number of Beef Data and Genomics Programme (BDGP) appeals in 2017 increased by 115% on the year previous, new figures show.

In 2017, some 110 appeals were submitted to the Agricultural Appeals Office in relation to the BDGP, up from the 51 appeals in 2016. The figures were revealed by the Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed this week in a parliamentary question to Sinn Féin’s Martin Kenny.

Green Low-carbon Agri-environment Scheme (GLAS) appeals were also up last year on 2016, with 79 appeals submitted – a 31% increase on 2016.

Some 79 appeals were also made in relation to the National Reserve last year, while the number made about the Young Farmers Scheme was down from 28 to 17.

Overall, in 2017, the number of appeals received by the appeals office came to 638. This was almost a 7% increase on the number of appeals in 2016.
