One of Tipperary’s best-known contractors, Thomas Cooney, who died last week, gave a lifetime to farm contracting and farming in his native Clerihan and throughout south Tipperary.

Thomas Cooney was recognised as a gentleman by all who dealt with him over decades of farm contracting.

He loved his machinery and had huge pride in choosing, operating and caring for his machinery, in more recent years along with his son John.

He was considered “old stock” with strong views backed by solid values of honesty, integrity and dedication to his family, farming customers and farm machinery suppliers.
