A mountain holding at Aghavannagh, Aughrim, Co Wicklow is set to come under the hammer with a guide that places it at a very different level to when it first came to wider attention.

Extending to 1,518ac, the property was highlighted last year with a much higher valuation, largely due to its scale and its position alongside Lugnaquilla, the highest point in Leinster. It now moves forward with a guide of over €2m.

The land runs in one continuous sweep from Aghavannagh towards the summit, made up of open hill, heather, rough grazing and areas of bog. It is not a conventional farm block, but a large upland holding defined by natural boundaries, including stretches along the River Ow.

The upper ground is a key feature. Rather than a narrow peak, Lugnaquilla opens out into a broad plateau, giving the holding a scale and presence that is difficult to replicate. The Wicklow Way also crosses the lands, placing it within one of the country’s most used walking routes.

Alongside the main holding, there is an 8.62ac roadside parcel and a separate 0.61ac enclosed plot. The lands are subject to grazing rights and are suited to extensive sheep grazing.

The property will come under the hammer on 1 May at the Clayton Hotel, Ballsbridge, Co Dublin.
