The Department of Agriculture has told the Irish Farmers Journal that it intends to issue advance Basic Payment Scheme payments, in respect of cleared cases, from 16 October. The advance payment is worth over €714m to farmers and, once all balancing payments issue in December, over €1.12bn will have been paid to over 121,000 farmers.

“Balancing payments will then begin to issue from 1 December,” a Department spokesperson said.

Member states may pay advances of up to 50% for direct payments and DAERA in Northern Ireland is to apply for a 70% advance payment for farmers in NI.
