Comment: Chairman of the IFA Pigs Committee Pat O’Flaherty said that prices continue to creep up quietly among some southern factories. Demand for pigs on the domestic market is very strong. The figures indicate that over 20,000 less pigs have been sent North for slaughter versus this time last year and there has been no significant increase in the slaughter numbers in the south. This would indicate that pigs are not available. There are positive indications from Russia that it may reopen for EU exports which could mean an increase of up to 20c/kg.
