28 acres in Osberstown, Kildare, sold for over €15,000/acre

On Friday last, Jordan Auctioneers, Newbridge, sold a 28-acre farm located in Osbertown, near Naas, Co Kildare, for €430,000 (c €15,350/ac).

The land, which is all in one division, adjoins the business park in Osbertown and has “real long-term potential”, according to Clive Kavanagh, selling agent with Jordan Auctioneers.

The biding opened at €200,000 and was put on the market at €340,000. Three bidders fought it out and the bidding flew along until it was sold under the hammer for €430,000. The land was bought in trust by a solicitor.

A second parcel of land, 16 acres located in Rathcoole, Co Dublin, that was due to go under the hammer the same day was withdrawn prior to auction.

99 acres in Abbeyleix goes for €401,000

A 99-acre parcel of land situated in Spink, Abbeyleix, Co Laois, was sold at auction last week for €401,000 (€4,050/ac). The bidding opened at €200,000 and rose steadily as four bidders contested for the property. Once the bidding rose to €380,000, Peter Scully of GVM Auctioneers, Tullamore, put the land on the market.

Two bidders contested the property for the last leg of the auction, until it eventually sold to a buyer from Wexford. Selling agent Peter Scully said the property would be suitable for planting as much of the land in the immediate vicinity had been planted.

Two parcels of land sold in Galway

Pat Finn Auctioneer, Galway, sold two parcels of land at auction last week. The first was 10-acres located in Laurencetown, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, which made €78,000 (€7,800/ac). Having opened at €50,000, the bidding was brisk and over in a short space of time as three bidders battled it out for the land.

Pat Finn described it as “goodish land” in need of some work and the property has no road frontage.

The second property was a c21.7-acre parcel situated at Ahascragh, Ballinsloe, Co Galway. The bidding on the land opened at €90,000 and was eventually sold for €120,000 (c €5,300/ac). Pat Finn described the property as decent land but in need of substantial work, which was reflected in the price paid.

He said the bidding had risen quickly, but was slow to finish up. Once he put the land on the market after a bid of €120,000 he received no further offers and it was sold at this price.

92 acre farm UNSOLD in Sligo

A 92-acre farm situated in Ballintogher, Co Sligo, that was offered for sale by public auction last week failed to sell. Patsy Smith, selling agent with DM Auctions, Sligo, said the farm was bid to €400,000 and subsequently withdrawn. He said they were still in negotiations for the farm.

14 acres fails to sell in Straide, Co Mayo

A 14-acre property, which included modern stables and housing, failed to sell at auction last week after no bids were received for the property.

Al McDonnell Auctioneer, Castlebar, said the auction was poorly attended and he received no offer for the land. He added that he was made an offer prior to the auction and this still stood.
