As marts in NI plan to recommence sales in a very controlled way, the mart in Saintfield is remaining very cautious.

Auctioneer Geoffrey Murphy says that while they have been monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic closely on a daily basis, they have decided, as a family-run business, to remain closed.

“We will not be starting sales until we are confident that there is no risk to our valued staff and customers. We would like to sincerely thank all those who have respected our decision and we believe it’s the right choice in these unprecedented times,” he told the Irish Farmers Journal.

Nevertheless, Geoffrey and Brian Murphy recognise that farmers are looking to trade, and they can help match buyers and sellers.

Geoffrey can be contacted on 07739 337 748 and Brian on 07855 800 620.
