Earlier this week, Seedtech launched its mission to find the best hybrid barley growers. These growers will have followed the simple agronomy and harvesting steps provided to achieve MoreGrainMoreProfit from hybrid barley.
The competition requires that advisers and agronomists around the country nominate some of the growers they work with. The judging panel will then assess the crop and grower to determine the growers to progress to the finals. Nominations are now open and will be accepted up until 30 June. So if anyone out there has a crop that fits this bill, submit an application form.
Participation is not very demanding on the grower. If appropriate, the adviser should fill up the application form and return it to info@seedtech.ie by 30 June. This will be followed by a visit from a Seedtech representative to inspect the crop and verify the records, etc. The field must be a minimum of 3ha and must be identifiable by its LPIS number. The adviser/agronomist must certify the yield on a weighbridge at harvest and submit a 1kg green sample for quality testing.

Finalists will be informed by 22 August and the overall winner will be announced on 29 August. The winner will receive a prize of €1,000 and his/her adviser will get €500.
