On the day, hoggets were a super trade, with fat ewes also being met with growing buyer demand.

Prices continue to strengthen, as a large presence of factory agents competed directly to secure factory-fit animals.

Mart manager Mark Stewart commented on the sale, stating that 350 sheep were forwarded for sale and that the trade across all types was much sharper than previous sales.

He added that increased buying demand is resulting in higher prices on offer and that more sheep are required week on week.

Prices for hoggets reached a peak of £98 for an entry of 88 crossbred animals consisting mostly of Texel breeding.

The hoggets weighed 25.5kg half-weight, which converts to a factory price of 436p/kg.

The next highest price was £97 paid on two separate occasions.

The first entry was a pen of three Texel-cross hoggets weighing 25kg half-weight.

This pen of 88 hoggets, weighing 25.5kg half-weight, sold for £98 per head.

The second lot to make £97 was a pen of 10 Texel- and Suffolk-cross hoggets weighing 26kg half-weight.

A pen of 10 heavy crossbred hoggets weighing 29kg half-weight was bid to £97.20 but went unsold.

An entry of four Dorset-cross hoggets weighing 24kg half-weight sold to £96.80.

This pen of six hoggets, weighing 26kg half-weight, sold for £96 per head.

This was followed by an entry of five crossbred hoggets weighing 24kg half-weight making £95 per head.

Other noted prices saw £94.80 paid on an entry of hoggets weighing 24.5kg half-weight on two separate occasions.

This pen of 15 hoggets, weighing 24kg half-weight, sold for £89 per head.

Hoggets weighing 22.5kg to 23kg half-weight sold from £90 to £91 per head for good-quality lowland-cross animals.

Hill breeds were also a solid trade. Blackface hoggets weighing 22kg half-weight sold to £86.70, with another pen weighing 24kg half-weight selling to £89 per head.

Mule hoggets weighing 24kg to 25kg sold from £89 to £92 per head depending on quality.

Ewes were a super trade, with a top price of £100 paid on a single entry. Pens of ewes sold to £91 for heavy fleshed animals.
