Scottish exporters are set to benefit from a change in official requirements in Singapore relating to meat imports from the UK.

The announcement was made last week that Agrifood and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) have updated its policies including the definition of UK meat products that can be imported into Singapore.

The decision follows on from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) announcement several months ago that Scotland had been granted negligible BSE risk.

At present, Scotland can only export boneless beef from cattle under 30 months old to Singapore. However, the new policy change will remove the age limit as well as allow bone-in-beef and beef offals to be exported into Singapore from Scotland.

Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) worked along with the UK Export Certification Partnership in order to advocate the change with Defra and the AVA.
