There was plenty of Christmas cheer for farmers selling stock at Enniskillen Mart this week as a reduced entry of cattle made for an excellent sale. Increased buyer competition kept prices firm as the year draws to an end.

Bullocks sold from 190p to 220p/kg for heavy lots, with a top price of £1,350 paid. The main price range on good-quality continental lots was £1,150 to £1,250.

Mid-weight bullocks sold from 205p to 236p/kg, with £1,040 paid on a 440kg Charolais animal. Lighter types sold from 210p to 255p/kg, with £800 paid at the top end of the trade for a 314kg Charolais.

Heifers

In the heifer ring, forward lots sold to 216p/kg with a top price of £1,200 paid for a 555kg animal.

Mid-weight heifers sold from 184p to 241p/kg with £1,010 paid for a 420kg Charolais animal. Lighter types sold from 190p to 241p/kg.

Weanlings

In the weanling ring, steers and bulls sold from £620 up to £1,040 for a 404kg Charolais animal, while heifers made from £500 to £1,070 for a 337kg Charolais animal.

Other noted prices saw bulls make £800 to £960 for top-quality animals weighing 320kg to 365kg, while several top-quality heifers over 300kg sold from £875 to £935.

Cows

Sucklers sold to £1,720 for a Salers cow with a bull calf at foot. Limousin cows sold to £1,660, with in-calf Simmental heifers making £1,080.

Fat cows sold to a top price of £1,600, with an 880kg Charolais cow with several lots selling from 180p to 199p/kg for young beef-bred cows.

Feeding cows made 198p to 210p/kg with Friesian cows making 56p to 90p/kg.

Calves

Bull calves sold to £500 for a Charolais, with Blue bulls making £380. Limousin bulls made also made £380, with heifers making £375.

Angus calves sold to £255, with Friesian making £110.
