Teagasc secured €6.3m in funding for research from the European Commission’s research programme, Horizon 2020.

In comparison with all research organisations and universities in Europe, Teagasc was the fifth most-efficient at drawing down European Commission funds for research projects related to agri food.

It finished sixth for the overall amount of money awarded in 2018.

Horizon has a total budget of almost €80bn and runs from 2014 to 2020.

Efficient

To date, Teagasc has been awarded €19m from Horizon 2020, with two years remaining in the programme. This is over one and a half times more funding than it secured over the full duration of the EU’s previous research programme.

A total of 19 researches will lead or participate in the newly funded projects.

In congratulating the successful applicants, Teagasc director Gerry Boyle said: “It is really important for us to collaborate with researchers and Knowledge Transfer professionals from across Europe and this EU funding allows us to achieve that.”

“It is great to see the breadth of activities, from cutting edge research and Knowledge Transfer activities to science outreach and gender studies.”
