A third tag company is expected to gain approval to sell to Irish farmers next week.

The Irish Farmers Journal has learned that Datamars is expecting to get the go-ahead to sell as and from Tuesday 31 January.

The Swiss-based company, which has teamed up with Celtic Diagnostics to form Datamars Ireland, will join Mullinahone and Cormac Tagging in being able to supply tags to the Irish market.

The majority of tags for the 2017 crop of calves have already been purchased by farmers. Some 1.5m tag sets have been ordered by farmers since 1 November, with Mullinahone supplying most of those.
