Thousands without power as storm Diana sweeps in from the south
As storm Diana continues to bring high winds across Ireland, the ESB is working to restore power after up to 40,000 homes, farms and businesses lost supply.

A peak of 40,000 homes, farms and businesses were without power around 11am this Wednesday as storm Diana brought high winds through the south of the country.
ESB Networks had reconnected around half of affected customers by lunchtime.
The worst affected areas are counties Cork and Tipperary. In Glengoole, Co Tipperary, there were around 2,100 customers without power in the morning, while in Cork there are two outages near Macroom and Curraleigh, affecting over 2,700 customers.

Elsewhere, there were smaller outages affecting customers in Rosbercon in Kilkenny and Coolcorcoran in Kerry.
The ESB estimatied that power would be restored to the vast majority of customers by Wednesday night.
A number of orange weather warnings issued by Met Éireann remain in place until the afternoon when the winds are forecast to weaken. A status yellow wind weather alert will remain in place across the country until evening.
