Tom O’Mahony will retire as chief executive of Origin Enterprises at the end of July, the company has announced.

In a stock market release on Thursday morning, Origin said O’Mahony had recently informed the board of his intention to retire at the end of the group’s 2020 financial year in July.

Origin said Sean Coyle, currently chief financial officer with the group, will succeed O'Mahony's as its new CEO with the leadership transition taking place between now and the end of July.

Stalwart

Tom O’Mahony is a stalwart of Ireland’s agribusiness industry having first joined Origin (then IAWS) 35 years ago. O’Mahony has been CEO of the company for the past 13 years and overseen enormous change, including the spin-out of Origin Enterprises as a standalone business from IAWS, as well as the expansion into new markets such as Poland, Ukraine, Romania and Brazil.

“After 35 years at Origin and the last 13 as group CEO, it is an appropriate time for change. I am delighted that Sean has been appointed as group CEO,” said O’Mahony.

“Sean combines the necessary leadership qualities with a strong intellectual capacity and a clear communication style to bring the group through its next phase of growth and development. I am very proud of the organisation we have built and the strength of its people and leadership teams,” he added.
