Michelin Roadbib

Michelin launched its Roadbib range of front and rear tyres earlier this year at the LAMMA agricultural exhibition in the UK. The tyre company is targeting contractors with tractors greater than 200hp and those doing a lot of road work with these tyres. The company is promising long mileage, remarkable comfort and precise handling from the tyre range.

The Michelin RoadBib features a new tread design that it has not produced before. It is the first time Michelin has produced an agricultural tyre which is not lugged in the traditional sense. Formed of 52 blocks to maximise traction, coupled with a central spine, it allows 40% of the tyre to remain in contact with the road surface – a 60% increase on a typical lugged agricultural tyre based on testing conducted by Michelin.

It is claimed the new tyre delivers around 25% additional tyre life. Sizes available for 2018 will be 710/70R42 and 600/70R30.

Trelleborg Progressive traction tyre lug

Progressive Traction is a new tyre-lug design that can be used on tractors over 350hp and on those with narrow rims

Trelleborg wheel systems recently launched two new pieces of tyre technology. Progressive Traction is a new tyre-lug design that can be used on tractors over 350hp and on those with narrow rims. It is also available on tyres designed for lower-horsepower tractors. It has been rolled out across several patterns in the range. The tyre is able to work at a higher torque and provides a wider footprint, increasing traction. It is also claimed to deliver a load capacity of up to 40% more than any other premium product in the market.

Connectire

The ConnecTire concept from Trelleborg is a new sensor-based smart wheel which reduces the risk of tyre slippage on the rim. ConnecTire constantly monitors two key variables – tyre pressure and temperature – which can vary greatly depending on load, speed, conditions and application. The sensor works by relaying information to both tractor cab and farm office via Bluetooth and wireless connectivity. Operators set their target tyre pressure and can then monitor how tyre pressure deviates from that target and act accordingly. Should corrective action be required, ConnecTire automatically sends an alert via its App, ensuring minimum disruption and maximum machine safety.

BKT Agrimax V-Flecto

Officially unveiled at the French agricultural exhibition SIMA 2017 and to Irish customers at last year’s National Ploughing Championships, the Agrimax V-Flecto tyre is BKT’s version of a VF Technology (very high flexion) tyre. It is designed for high-power tractors for use both on and off the road.

The essence of this Agrimax V-Flecto tyre range is that they are designed to carry the same load as a standard tyre, while operating at 30% less inflation pressure. In other words, the tyre range can carry 40% additional load at same inflation pressure as standard tyres. Other benefits of these tyres are the tyres can carry the same load at the same pressure between speeds of 10-65 km/h.

Continental re-enters the agricultural tyre market

Continental recently decided to re-enter the agricultural tyre business having left it in 2004 with the Tractor70 and Tractor85 tyre options. The tyres will be produced at their plant in Lousado in northern Portugal which has received an investment of almost €50m.

Continental have re-entered the agricultural tyre industry with the Tractor70 and Tractor85 tyre options. These tyres will be produced at their Portugese plant.

The tyres feature a new bead technology and are made of an innovative nylon material, a patent for which is pending under the name N.flex. The tyres bear the Engineered for Efficiency label, which means that they are designed to increase the performance of agricultural machinery and reduce running costs. After the launch of the standard tyres, Tractor70 and Tractor85, the Continental tyre portfolio is to be expanded to a total of 100 sizes by 2019.
