A Tipperary farmer has appealed for any information on his stolen Massey Ferguson 168.

The vintage tractor was stolen from Rory McGrath’s yard in Lisronagh, five miles from Clonmel, in the early hours of Monday morning.

“It was taken sometime between 1am and around 5am on Monday,” he told the Irish Farmers Journal.

The theft occurred despite increased security measures taken on the farm following a previous theft of a quad trailer.

“We have two big new steel gates welded on to steel pillars and padlocked,” said McGrath.

However the intruders bypassed those gates and knocked out two smaller gates to take the tractor.

McGrath suspects the tractor was driven in darkness to the nearby church car park and loaded into a trailer.

“The tractor is worth about €8,000, but it’s really invaluable to us,” he said.

The late 1970s tractor and loader are used to feed all cattle on the dairy farm.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Gardaí in Clonmel on 052 6177640.
