Earlier this month, the Irish Farmers Journal and the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) travelled to Brazil to visit farms, livestock marts and agricultural supply stores.

The IFA's Tomas Bourke, Irish Farmers Journal picture editor Philip Doyle and myself visited four states and travelled almost 3,000km as part of our investigation.

There has been a lot of talk around Brazil raising its production standards to the same standard that EU farmers have to comply with within the last few years, with assurances given by both the European Commission and Brazilian authorities that the standards have improved to the required level to enter the EU market.

What we found in Brazil was something very different.
