The Irish Simmental cattle society held its premier autumn sale in Roscommon on Saturday, with trade peaking at €18,000.

More than 100 cattle were on offer, with one of the best displays of cattle seen across any breed in recent years. This was helped greatly by the draft sale of three prominent herds – Lissadell, Raceview and Clonagh.

Leading proceedings and taking the top price of €18,000 was this year’s overall national champion Clonagh Jubilant Fabulous. The sale-topper was bred by Garrett Behan from Portlaoise, who sold five lots for €5,000 or more on the day. Sired by Kilbride Farm Dragoon, she is out of homebred heifer Clonagh Delightfully Fab, herself a daughter of three-time overall national champion Banwy T-Rex.

The Clonagh herd also secured the second top price of the day when they sold Clonagh Krystal Rubystar for €10,000. This 13-month-old heifer was again sired by Kilbride Farm Dragoon, with the dam a Clonagh Tiger Gallant-bred cow.

The Lissadell herd of Kieran and Paul Mullarkey sold three ET sisters for €9,000, €6,500 and €5,100 respectively. These were sired by Hillcrest Champion and out of the 2016 Balmoral champion Talley Gretta.

The bull trade peaked at €6,300 for one of the youngest bulls catalogued, Fearna Kungfu Jim. This December 2018-born bull is sired by Curraheen Gunshot and goes back to the famous Fearna Regal.
